When I walked in the door from work the new Travel and Leisure magazine was waiting for me. Every month it serves as a small treat. A warm blanket, usually after a thoroughly disappointing day at work. Today was no different, until I got to the very last page in the Feb. 2013 issue, entitled "When You're in Key West, FL." It was one of those one-page snippet type snapshots designed to entice you without giving away too much. An experienced first date who leaves you wanting more. Unfortunately, the only feeling this article left with me was the desire to offer better alternatives to the dining/traveling public.
So, in an effort to create lasting memories for families and single girls alike, here is my list of Don't Miss It in Key West.
1. Douglas House. I have stayed here for years and they have never failed to disappoint. This charming B&B is one block off Duval Street on Amelia. Rates are very reasonable and they offer both a FL resident and a last minute discount.
2. Bo's Fish Wagon. Anyone who advises you to eat anywhere else for lunch is sadly misinformed. Bo's only serves what the fishermen brought in that very morning. It is a great place to relax with a cold beer and a delicious fresh fish sandwich.
3. Sebago. There is no shortage of excursions available to Key West visitors but if you want a down-to-earth team and a friendly captain choose Sebago. Their prices are the best and once they even waited for my group of 12 very hungover women to arrive before we set sail. Sebago kiosk is located in front of Walgreens at Malory Square.
4. Green Parrot. Located on Whitehead Street this place has local music, pool tables and an impressive license plate collection. Park your bike outside and stop in for happy hour.
5. The Bull. This 3 level bar on Duvall Street might seem a little rough around the edges at first, but venture to the 2nd floor where you can shoot a game of pool or sit high above the street on their wraparound porch and watch the show. If you're feeling daring head to the 3rd level where clothing is optional.
